Check the software developers' Web sites and download and install any updates of your applications that were released for Mac OS X version 10.2 or later. If you find that you use an application that has not been updated for 10.2 or 10.3, you might experience problems when you run it?if it runs at all.

Most major Mac applications that required an update for version 10.2 have already been updated.
(You might need to update your Mac's firmware see the next section for information about doing this.) The hardware requirements from previous versions of Mac OS X haven't changed all that much, so if you are currently running a previous version of Mac OS X, your hardware is more than likely Mac OS X version 10.3 compatible. Most of these applications have been updated by now, but be aware that if you are currently running 10.1, you should check for updates to the applications you use if you haven't updated them recently. The move from 10.1 to 10.2 made extensive changes to some fundamental aspects of the OS and consequently, many applications that worked fine under 10.1 do not work under 10.2 without being updated. This is especially true if you are running version 10.1.x. It might take some time and effort to get into version 10.3's world, but the benefits are well worth the work. Version 10.3 is a major update (in my opinion, it should have been called version 11), and moving to it requires some thought. The upgrade from previous versions of Mac OS X to version 10.3 involves a lot more than the change in number from 10.1 or 10.2 to 10.3 would indicate.
